Boomtown or Ghost Town? Nvidia’s $5T Future Hangs in the Balance

by admin477351

Nvidia’s $5.05 trillion valuation paints a picture of a digital “boomtown,” the central hub of a new AI gold rush. But critics, including the IMF and Bank of England, are warning it could all become a “ghost town” if the gold—real-world profit—never materializes.
The “boomtown” narrative is backed by staggering numbers. The company’s value grew by $1 trillion in three months. Its $500 billion order book and $100 billion OpenAI deal are the tools and dynamite for the miners. Partnerships with Uber, Nokia, and the US government are the new railways.
President Trump has also vocally supported this vision of a new frontier of American prosperity.
But the “ghost town” scenario (the “bust”) is based on a critical flaw. Analysts warn that “nearly all AI pilot programs in businesses fail.” The miners are spending a fortune on Nvidia’s tools but are finding no gold.
This is why the IMF and BofE have issued formal bubble warnings. They fear the $5T valuation is built on speculative hope, not economic reality. They even question the $100 billion OpenAI deal as “circular.” If the profits don’t arrive soon, this $5T boomtown could face a historic bust.
