Manager Henrik Pedersen gave a mixed verdict on Sheffield Wednesday’s administration, calling it a “sad situation” that “can also still be a good day.” The club was docked 12 points, dropping to -6, after owner Dejphon Chansiri appointed administrators.
Pedersen explained the “good” part is the “fresh restart” it affords the “fantastic club.” He told staff and players, “We knew from the last… eight months it cannot continue.” He added there is now “a belief, a hope” for “better days.”
The “sad” part is the 12-point penalty, which leaves the Owls 15 points from safety. The administration was forced by “years of financial mismanagement,” according to the Supporters Trust, including $pounds{}$1 million in unpaid taxes.
The club is now in the hands of Begbies Traynor, who will market the club and stadium as a package. Pedersen is hopeful job losses can be avoided.
Fans are “overjoyed” to see Chansiri leave, and the Supporters Trust is calling on them to end their boycotts. “The phase of resistance has achieved its goal,” the trust said. “Now begins the phase of renewal.”
