Scheduled for an October 16 release in Indian theaters, “Whalefall” is a production of 20th Century Studios and Imagine Entertainment. The narrative follows Austin Abrams in the role of Jay Gardiner, a diver grappling with the recent loss of his father, played by Josh Brolin. In a quest to find his father’s remains, Jay ventures into the waters of California’s Central Coast, where his dive takes a harrowing turn as he is swallowed by a giant sperm whale.
Faced with the dire reality of being trapped inside the mammoth creature, Jay is left with just about an hour of oxygen. With escape seeming implausible, he must draw upon his instincts and the wisdom imparted by his father to devise a survival strategy. The film intertwines elements of underwater adventure and claustrophobic tension, underscoring the emotional bond between Jay and his deceased father.
Directed, co-written, and produced by Brian Duffield, the film involved a dedicated production effort, including the construction of an intricate whale set at a sound stage in Studio City, California.
