This evening’s 98th Academy Awards nominations announcement by Danielle Brooks and Lewis Pullman put a spotlight on excellence. Paul Thomas Anderson and Ryan Coogler saw their films receive the most recognition.
The spotlight on both filmmakers’ excellence came through comprehensive nominations. Anderson’s “One Battle After Another” earned spotlight recognition in directing, adapted screenplay, and acting categories. The film’s ensemble cast, including Leonardo DiCaprio, Benicio Del Toro, and Sean Penn, received acknowledgment.
Coogler’s “Sinners” enjoyed similar spotlight treatment through nominations in directing, cinematography, production design, and acting. The film’s visual storytelling and powerful performances clearly impressed Academy voters across all branches.
Other films receiving spotlight include “Marty Supreme,” featuring Josh Safdie’s direction and Timothée Chalamet’s performance. “Hamnet” and “Sentimental Value” also earned multiple nominations. However, “Homebound” received no spotlight, earning zero nominations despite critical acclaim.
The 98th Academy Awards ceremony unfolds on March 15 at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. The ceremony will air at 7 p.m. ET on ABC, where spotlighted nominees will compete for cinema’s highest honors.
