Tesla’s latest financial performance for the third quarter of 2026 has surpassed expectations, with the electric vehicle giant reporting a revenue of $28.05 billion and earnings of $0.48 per share. These figures exceeded analysts’ predictions of $27.9 billion in revenue and $0.43 per share. Despite this positive outcome, the revenue marked a slight decrease from the $28.23 billion reported in the previous quarter, and automotive revenue saw a 3% decline compared to the same period last year.
During the earnings call, CEO Elon Musk introduced the intriguing possibility of a merger between Tesla and SpaceX, his aerospace and artificial intelligence company. Musk suggested that there was substantial merit in such a merger but refrained from providing additional details. While special committees from the boards of both companies are reportedly examining the proposal, no formal agreement has been reached, and any merger would require approval from over 50% of Tesla’s shareholders.
Beyond its core electric vehicle business, Tesla continues to diversify its focus into areas like artificial intelligence, autonomous driving, robotics, and renewable energy. However, the company faces hurdles in these sectors. Its Robotaxi service is encountering challenges with fleet expansion and city integration, while the production of its Optimus humanoid robots is experiencing difficulties.
Musk remains confident in the future of humanoid robots, predicting they could become one of the largest product categories globally. Meanwhile, Tesla faces increasing competition from lower-cost Chinese electric vehicle manufacturers as it seeks to achieve its goals in emerging technologies.
